Learning Gateway

SIMS Learning Gateway is a secure website which allows parents to access information regarding:

Attendance data – in real time

Assessment data – progress grades etc

Personal details

Your child’s timetable.

(SIMS stands for “Schools Information Management System”)

Over the last year we have expanded the use of SIMS in school for assessing pupil progress, monitoring behaviour and recording attendance.  Parents will already be familiar with the “traffic light” progress report which is sent home at the end of term.  This will soon be available online along with a live summary of progress.  The school reporting system will also be moved to SIMS by next year, allowing you to see the annual report via the web.  In order to access this data parents are supplied with an individual user name and password which must be kept confidential.  A small number of parents have taken part in the trial of “SLG”, which has been a success.  Now we intend to carry out a controlled release, starting with Year 11 parents.  Consequently it is essential that parental contact information is correct, which is one of the reasons for carrying out a data check on STAR Day recently.

User Guide for the Learning Gateway (recently amended)

The school is running a communication system called Schoolcomms. This will allow us to send messages to parents via mobiles and email. We intend to use mobile messaging to check on absence, and email to send information such as:

copies of letters,

reminders of events such as parents' evenings.

If the system is successful we would like to move towards a more effective and environmentally friendly paper free communication system.  In order to receive information via Schoolcomms you will need to ensure that we have your current mobile number and email address.

Assessment Data Information

This document has to been written to help parents understand our assessment system. I hope that it helps to make our progress reporting system a little clearer.  I would welcome any constructive feedback which would enable me to improve it.
