PUPIL PREMIUM – ACADEMIC YEAR 2012 – 2013
Context of Funding
The Pupil Premium is an amount of money allocated to schools by the Government to ensure that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most. It is additional to main school funding. The Government considers this to be the most effective way to address the inequalities between those pupils eligible for free school meals (FSM) or who are Looked-after Children and other pupils. The funding is allocated to schools per FSM pupil. It is for schools to decide how it is spent because they are in the best position to judge what additional provision should be made. Schools are accountable, however, for how they have used the additional funding to support FSM and LAC pupils.
Funding Allocation
The funding is allocated for children from families known to be eligible for free school meals (FSM) during Academic Year 2012 – 2013 and for children who had been looked after continuously for more than six months. This equates to 428 pupils, 32.8% of the total for Years 7 - 11. The level of funding is £623 per pupil from September 2012 to April 2013 and £900 for the period to August 2013 giving a total allocation for Academic Year 2012 – 2013 of £316,040.
