Sporting and Recreational Activities
We run a full range of extra-curricular sporting and recreational
clubs each day. We advertise these clubs on the PE Corridor on A Floor
and within the Recreation Centre. In September we will publish a list
of clubs available on the web site. We have an "open door" policy and encourage studnets to just
turn up and give things a go. Clubs finish at around 4.00pm with the
sweeper bus departing at 4.15pm (details of the route are in the New
Pupil Handbook). If playing representative sport fixtures tend to
finish later than 4.15pm, it could be as late as 6.00pm. If your
son/daughter is selected to represent the school then they will be
informed of the times and dates in advance so arrangements can be made
for collection from school. All clubs are free apart from the junior
membership of the fitness suite. Details of junior membership can be
found at the recreation centre.
School Uniform
School uniform is an integral element in the traditions of Thornton
Grammar School and we insist that all students excluding 6th Form wear
it. The smart appearance of students helps to foster the traditional
reputation of the school and enhances the standing of the students of
the school generally. Clothing is a major item of expense for any
family, but the school uniform is no more expensive or less hard wearing
than other forms of clothing and in many cases is better value for
money. Jewellery or body piercing of any kind, other than a SINGLE PAIR
OF SMALL STUDS IN PIERCED EARS, is not allowed, this includes
necklaces, rings, brooches, nose-studs, eye brow rings, bracelets, hair
ornaments, etc. In practical lessons the wearing of jewellery can be
dangerous and there is always a risk of loss, damage or theft of items.
We ask parents to do their utmost to ensure that their children
are correctly attired throughout their career at Thornton Grammar
School.
Please note an apron is required in white or navy for Technology lessons - (available from School)
Enquiries regarding entitlement to free school clothing should be made to: Directorate of Finance, Bradford Council Benefits Service, 2nd Floor, Britannia House, Hall Ings, Bradford BD1 1HX, (Tel 01274 432772). For information of local offices, please contact the above telephone number. Summer Uniform - From Spring Bank Holiday each year a short-sleeved white shirt may be substituted for the long-sleeved one. No other change to uniform or footwear is permitted.
Trainers/sports shoes/pumps are NOT PERMITTED.
Exact details of the require uniform can be found in the New
Pupil Handbook. This can be downloaded from the Yr 7 page.
